If your kids love tennis, they’ll love it even more as part of a team.
Kids like playing with their friends and being part of a group, which is why playing USTA Jr. Team Tennis is such a great way to get—and keep—kids in the game. Fun events such as Play Days and Kids’ Tennis Clubs often incorporate team formats to help introduce kids to the game, and Jr. Team Tennis lets kids continue to play with the friends they’ve made along the way.
Play in USTA Jr. Team Tennis involves singles, doubles and mixed doubles. Best of all, USTA Jr. Team Tennis is for children of all ages.
LEVEL OF PLAY: This is a league based on competitive play. Your team may or may not offer team practices. It is important that our child understand scoring. Also, competitors at all age divisions should be able to serve and keep a rally. If you are interested in this league, but your child is a true beginner, then I would recommmend scheduling a few private lssons before attempting to play matches.
FORMAT OF PLAY: Singles matches will be the same for all three age divisions. They will be best of three sets with each set being a four game short set. If players split sets, the third set will be played out. The 10 & under division will play a regular six game short set for doubles. All doubles mateches for the 14 & under and 18 & under divisions will be eight game prosets. The number of matches played each will depend on the number of registrants, but the goal is to have two singles matches and two doubles matches.
TEAM MANAGEMENT: Most teams will be coached and managed by parents. Please email Zach Eccher if you would be interested in being a parent captain. Weekly practice with a tennis teaching professional is highly encouraged. If you have any questions about the league or registration, please feel free to contact me.
